The Gerry Henson Memorial Foundation currently awards a $1,000 scholarship each spring to a Fauquier Falcon graduating senior attending Virginia Tech or Bridgewater College the next Fall. Gerry spent so much of his time at Fauquier, improving the athletic facilities, not because he had to, but because he wanted to. Fauquier High School was not only the school both of his children attended, but a place that felt like a home
In addition, Virginia Tech was like a home to Gerry. Attending school there in the 70’s along with his brothers, he often expressed his jealousy of Tripper’s 5 years at VT, as the football team went a bowl all of the 5 years. “They sucked when I was there, but at least the baseball team was good” he often said. He spent many Saturdays at both Bridgewater college to see Michael play, and then further down 81 to Blacksburg to see the Hokies play. A self proclaimed “Tailgate Professional”, he would often have huge tailgates surrounded by Mike and Tripper’s friends.
Because of his love for these two academic institutions, it only made sense to make the Fauquier High School and Virginia Tech requirement for the winner of the scholarship. For those interested in applying for a future scholarship please check the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation’s website for information.
